Trip Overview

Hop onboard the train for an exciting journey from Chicago west to Los Angeles, with a stop at the iconic Grand Canyon in between! Start with two nights in the ‘Windy City,’ discovering the famous sights and classic architecture on a fascinating river cruise. Then, board Amtrak’s Southwest Chief for a scenic overnight journey on the train to the Grand Canyon. Spend two nights at the Maswik Lodge in the Canyon and enjoy a tour of the spectacular South Rim during your time there. Then re-board the Southwest Chief for another relaxing overnight onboard the train to Los Angeles, where two more days of sightseeing (and celebrity sighting) await you in the sunny ‘City of Angels.’

DAY 1   - YOUR JOURNEY BEGINS IN CHICAGO
Welcome to Chicago! Make the most of your time in the ‘Windy City’ exploring all the top attractions in this friendly, vibrant city. Take a walk down Magnificent Mile, discovering the many shops and restaurants that line the boulevard. (Overnight in Chicago)

DAY 2   - CHICAGO
Continue exploring Chicago at your leisure today. Be sure to stop by the iconic attractions Chicago has to offer, like the Skydeck Chicago, Navy Pier, Millennium Park, 360 Chicago, and much more. Take your included architecture river cruise and learn about the fascinating history of the impressive buildings that line the river. Dinner this evening at a popular restaurant in Chicago is included. (Overnight in Chicago) D

DAY 3   - OVERNIGHT ONBOARD AMTRAK
Head to Chicago’s Union Station and board the Southwest Chief for your overnight journey west to the Grand Canyon. Enjoy the scenery as you travel through the Great Plains and into the sprawling desert landscapes of New Mexico and Arizona the following day. (Overnight onboard Amtrak)

DAY 4   - WILLIAMS, AZ
Wake up to spectacular scenery and a relaxing day on the train. Arrive into Williams, AZ this evening and spend the night in this nature lover’s paradise before heading into the Grand Canyon tomorrow. (Overnight in Williams)

DAY 5   - GRAND CANYON
Enjoy breakfast at the Grand Depot Café this morning before boarding the Grand Canyon Railway for your journey to the Canyon. This classic train ride runs through the largest expanse of ponderosa pine forest views of some charming Southwest scenery. The train ends at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Formed over millions of years, the waters of the Colorado River have carved the Canyon into one of the wonders of the natural world. Your included tour picks you up from the South Rim and takes you all around for sightseeing while your guide provides a wealth of fascinating information about the area. The views are absolutely spectacular! You will stay this evening at the South Rim. (Overnight at the Grand Canyon) B

DAY 6   - GRAND CANYON
Enjoy the day at your leisure today in the Grand Canyon. Relax by the Canyon and just enjoy the atmosphere. Take some time to visit some local attractions such as the historic Hopi House and the sprawling Visitor’s Center. (Overnight at the Grand Canyon)

DAY 7   - OVERNIGHT ONBOARD AMTRAK
Today, take the scenic Grand Canyon Railway train from South Rim back to Williams for your train journey to Los Angeles. Before departing, enjoy dinner at the Grand Depot Café. (Overnight onboard Amtrak)

DAY 8   - LOS ANGELES
Welcome to Los Angeles! Get ready to tour the entire ‘City of Angels’ on your hop-on, hop-off tour today. See iconic landmarks, like the Hollywood Sign, Rodeo Drive, the Walk of Fame, Paramount Studios, and many more LA hot spots. Be sure to keep your eyes open because you very well may spot a celebrity or two! (Overnight in Los Angeles)

DAY 9   - LOS ANGELES
Enjoy the day at your leisure in sunny Los Angeles. Continue discovering the sights you haven’t yet seen with your hop-on, hop-off tour. (Overnight in Los Angeles)

Bright Angel Lodge

El Tovar

El Tovar Hotel, the premier lodging facility at the Grand Canyon, opened its doors in 1905 and was most recently renovated in 2005. In the past, the Hotel has hosted such luminaries as Theodore Roosevelt, Albert Einstein, Western author Zane Grey, and many others. Today, El Tovar retains its elegant charm. Located on the Canyon rim, it features a fine dining room (open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner), lounge and curio shop with newsstand.
